"don't make me beg..." is a 1 minute short produced locally and shown on the big screen prior to our first public fund raising event, "Please PAWS The Movie", held on October 5 at Empire Theatres.

The Sydney Off-leash Dog Park is still in it's fund raising stage. Aaron Andrews & Rebecca Korven, owners of Celtic Creatures Vet Clinic Ltd, have donate close to 4 acres of land - of which 1 acres will used for phase one. Phase one (the main park area) will include a fenced in park with benches, land scaping, garbage cans, and bag dispensers. This phase will cost approximately $16000 to complete.

Dogs have become more than four legged companions. Sources state that 62% of Atlantic Canadian households have dogs. To many of these homes their dogs are considered part of their family, an extension of themselves, and to others, who have working dogs, a necessity for helping them get through the day. The park will allow owners a place to exercise their dogs, including, the elderly and owners of working dogs who do not have the luxury of taking their dogs for a simple walk.

There are many programs and groups in CBRM which have already discovered the benefits of dogs: St. John Ambulance are using Therapy Dogs to help bond with patients and advance their emotional well being, Cape Breton Regional Library are using dogs to help young people build confidence in their reading, Memorial High School is using puppies to teach grade 10 students about Children’s Rights, and Regional Police, RCMP and The Cape Breton Search and Rescue have been using dogs in their daily routine for years.
